Phat Tuesday

today is fat tuesday.

I got beads from Beth. I hope I can see the pic of Beth and Julie B together. They were so cute. my run tonight was good but I had stiffness behind my knees because of my great workout on monday. I am really trying to push myself when I am at the gym. I got to catch up to lora on saturdays.

What would Bode do?

Well, Olympics is now over. I am very sadden by this. I fell in love with curling. Cassie Johnson is a real babe. There are others that I really like also Mirjam Ott of the swiss team. USA men got Bronze medal. I am very excited about that. I watched them everyday. I could not get as excited by the men's gold medal game since well I do not care about either team.

Well today I was at the gym going to workout on the elpical runner. That really helps with shin splint issues I seem to get when I am running too much on the hard surfaces. I been doing only the fat burning since I am been struggling to work at the cardio plus I want to lose weight. Today I asked "myself would Bode do?". I decided he would do the cardio has long as he could and would keep pushing himself. So I decided to do that about 12 mins into my workout and I then did it at the cardio heartrate. I knew that Bode would push himself and I need to push myself also.

I am sadden by the lack of Lora for the last 2 weeks. Hopely this means the speed queen herself is slowing down and I can catch up.

well I also bought a new scale that does weight, body fat, and water content. This way I can see if I am dehydrated, and also if my body fat is going down while I am lifting and building up muscles. I figured it was worth the investment. My manual scale is hard to read also plus it never seems to change much when my other scale changes. Also I heard my current scale is a few lbs high. even like 5 to 4 lbs higher. I am going to compare my current scale, new scale, and then with a doctors scale they have at the gym.

water content is alot like 42% and should be about 60% so I need to get that up. I know that my overweight body tends to have a lower than 60% water but need to find my ideal hydration and keep that about that. I know I am probably under hydrated and when you are under hydrated you weigh less so it really wants you to weight less.

Top 5 and other things

Its funny. I thought alot about my top 5 runners of Alpine. I thought long and hard and in the end it was so simple and so easy.

Well I will start why with the bottom.
Kris of 3 sisters fame. I had Kris at #3 for a long time but moved her down. There is something about her I can not explain and if I got to know her that something might be gone. I think she more reminds me of someone but I know she can run well and she is really cute. I love the running outfits she wears. Plus she has the same name as my friend's wife and they are total opposites. I had others to replace her and I figure at number 5 if someone better comes up I can switch her out.

Julie B. She is an ultra marathoner which is a big plus. Thought about moving her to 5 but decided not too. She is of course a beautiful girl. There are things about her that I do not like. Many things I do. She makes me smile and I like that. She also totally reminds me of my favorite "Sex and the City" charater.

Lora. Orinigally I told her she did not make it. For a long time I cut her. I thought about it and she has to make it. Not only is she good looking but she is sweet. She is getting faster and able to go longer and I would like to keep up. She is my driving force now to really improve myself. Since she has come back I been running more and finally losing weight. I love to year her stories most of all. She has not done an ultra yet but I know she will and I will do what I can to be there when she does, and be able to finish with her.

Julie A. Well what can I saw about this beautiful woman. She is interesting as hell. She makes a very strong case for Ultra queen which makes her someone I just can not even think about leaving her off the list. she has a great laugh and smile. She is one of the first people I met in Apline and one of the sweetest. She seems to love my stories too.

Beth. Well she is the other one I could say who could be the #1 ultra woman of the group. She ran like 82 marathons and countless ultras. I feel like we have a bond. Like we are simular spirits. She is a beautiful woman so full of life and excitement. She has such a passion when it comes to running. If running did not exsist I would have no idea what she would do since she is all about running 24/7. I honestly do not know if she like to do anything else except maybe drink and dance.

Supersize Me

When I want to really focus on weight loss one of the first things I do is watch super size me. It keeps me away from fast food and helps me focus on what I should be eating. Interesting thing is when we go to bagels after our runs on saturday mornings. When we do longer runs about 15 to 20 miles I try to eat atleast a bowl of cereal before we go run just to make sure I have the energy to get through the runs. That is fine and all. I tend to burn about 3400 cals for every 13 miles I run according to some charts and my heart rate monitor. When I trained for my first marathon and even my last marathon I would actually gain weight. This is interesting since one of the biggest jokes about marathon training is how you should be eating everything and still lose weight. There can be some truth to it and I have seen it on others but not myself. I found that the sandwhich I eat every saturday morning is 782 cals and 34 g of fat. This really shocked me. According to the weight watchers method for losing weight that comes to 22.5 points. In order for me to lose weight which excersie they figure I need to eat 31 points a day. Now my running does make me more flexible when it comes to losing weight. It does allow me to eat more and still lose more weight. But still even of I can have 40 points in a day when 23 of them are used up in 1 meal that still means I can not eat much the rest of the day. Come saturday I am not going to be eating my sandwhich anymore. Maybe once in awhile. Its not bad to be bad once in awhile because it does help to trick the body and keep it guessing.

On a happier note that my desicion to work more on weight lose has net me my lowest weight since my 50k, and about 9 lbs total lose. Plus my shins are getting alot better. I might not move up in pace group this year for the chicago marathon but I do know I will finish it 1 hour faster than I did last year. I will not die like I have in the past. my goal this year is really to run the chicago marathon at a 12:15 avg pace. I give myself extra 15 secs per mile for water stops. that is about a 5:30 finshing time. If I train hard enough and I lose enough weight I can do it. If I can do this then maybe next year I will compete in the Cara circuit as a clysdale. I techinqly did this year and I got last but only because I was robbed about 15 points that I earned. I should have been about 12 out of 15.

Sick or just not healthy?

Not sure if I am sick or its been some of the foods I been eating. My dad is now a diabetic which of course got me worried also. We tested my blood at home and found it to be 97. I been told by him the range should be 70 - 120. If that is true then I am about exactly the middle and so that is good.

I been working on eating better lately and that I think has caused me problems from this weekend. I thought alot of it was from my student loan total but seems to just hit me at that time also. I have hardly slept in 2 days and my stomach hurts. I been having some diarrhea also. I did research on my condition and everything that is wrong with me points to potential too much Sugar Alcohol.

from now on I am going to follow the advice of 2 people. 1) my dad and only use 100% maple syrup. none of that crap with the high frustose corn syrup. 2) Tom and if I do eat pancakes again to make them from scratch using only 100% whole wheat. I need to take a greater interest in my diet than I do. Natural Health magazine this month talked about how its important to really make your own food.

I have missed working out on saturday and so far sunday because of this. I hope to do sme stuff at home but I did miss my saturday run and going to the gym on sunday.

Tuesday Night

Well,

I went out for a run. It was pretty good. I still struggled but it was good to be out there and appart of the running again. Its been awhile and I decided I can either not lose weight while walking or I can not lose weight while running. atleast running will end sooner and let me have more fun after a marathon. :)

I am cross training more now to help with reducing potential injuries. Alot of them seem to be from pounding on the payment to much. Makes sense really. This summer is going to be good I think. I will be ok.

talked to a girl who has not ran in like 2 months and she is thinking about the Ice Age 50k and so I am inspired by her. Of course she is much more of a runner than I have ever been but its ok. I will be ok soon enough. Thinking about taking pics of myself now so I can compare them to my pre chicago marathon training of 2004 pictures.

day 2

Well day 2 at the gym was great. I tried not for the cardio build up but did slightly less and was able to go for 1 hour doing about 4.5 miles on the ellicpatical machine as well as about 4 machines.

My shins problems are getting better. my feet issue seems to be related to a shin issue. this makes sence since my form when I tried my walking strategy was off and I was on my feet for usually like 3 hours at a time.

I am back to running and figure I will work on my form and what not and not worry so much about the distance even though I am a distance runner. I am more of a guy who likes to struggle for a long long time then a distance runner. In a marathon some hit the wall at mile 20 I hit it at mile 8.

The morning after

This is the morning after my first day in the new gym.

Man o man I like to start by saying man o man.

my chest muscles are really sore and I gotten out of shape.

I did about 25 reps on the slide 90 lbs + slide weight
25 more with 180 lbs + slide weight
2 sets of 15 with 270 lbs + slide wight

then did the 180 lbs and 90 lbs again. at 25 reps

Then I just did the eplicatacal machine for 30 mins and I was exhausted.

I also bumped the tibetan 5 rites to 7 reps of each rite.

Last night I mentioned Ice Age 50k to Stacy and she suggested I do the 50 miler with her. She said do no worry she would be out of shape for it also. Man I do not know if I can get from 4 miles to 50 by May. I do hope to do a 50k in april so maybe I can.

I took the plunge

Nope I am not getting married I mean to join a gym in a strip mall. I did it because well in January I was already thinking about doing weights to build up muscle. My running coach would yell at me for doing it because I use my muscles. I have not had runs so good as I did couple weeks after I worked with him. my problem is I can not let go. I did really good about 2 weeks after the workshop but I have since fallen behind again.

I was also 23 lbs lighter then so I figure I better get my ass into gear and lose it. :)

I joined the fitness 19 gym and I am on the $24 a month program and it only cost me $24 to join and that is where they really get you. I figure I will only be there for a fewmonths once the summer hits or I have a job I will not have time to work out there plus if it gets cold I can be a wimp. :)

after my 4 miles today I am sore but its good. I wish the top of my feet were not so tight and sore that is why I get my feet problems. I bet I am pushing off with m toes but there is no sand around here to test it out.

good news is that my tibetan 5 rites is doing more for my weight lose in 5 mins a day than walking for 4 hours did.

another blog for me. man o man. I need to find a home and stay there or just do not move and to say to heck with everyone. I am here so I can make comments to one of the finest runners I have gotten to know. If I am going to post my running stuff I might as well do it in a place where it will get noticed by people who might actaully care. My computer geek friends do not like it since well its against their religion. my raver friends well they only care about parties, nudity, and such. One if dating a runner now so he is forced to care some. Lucky my spiritual friends agree with me that running is one of the best things one can do for there own spirituality and when he was in basic training he could see in the eyes of people who finished running the same look they have after meditation.
